Illustration Friday - Sink

It's been a while since I participated in Illustration Friday! This octopus only fights a little bit as he sinks down down down.

Digital paint test 4 - in progress

I watched some demos on youtube for digital painting and figured I'd give it another shot. The 50% paint opacity is just about right.

Painted in Gimp, overlayed on a scanned drawing on paper.

Digital Paint

It's been ages since I painted digitally. I used to do this in photoshop way back when I was a pup, actually, before I could paint in oils. Then I messed with enhancing some drawings, then did som vector work. Anyway the challenge here was to try to replicate my usual oils/illo syle in digital paint. And it's not terrible... I'll keep at it. Smells good!

Octopus, Fish, Mohawk, Hair

I sure hope this drawing binge lasts. (Though honestly I'm "designing" more than "drawing.") I tend not to sketch enough, since somehow I feel like I beentheredonethat, and I'm always running with my head on fire for commission and projects I'm late for. Sketching seems like a diversion from the work I'm supposed to be doing. Dumb, I know, since it shakes loose a lot of neat ideas.

All drawings micron 05 markers on kraft paper, about 5 x 7".

New sketches

I got some Micron pens, archival ink, 05 size. The ink is rich and flows very well, though I seem to remember these run out really fast. Sigh. The colors are good and it looks nice on the kraft paper i think.

Oil Sketch for Weed Eater

This oil sketch is based on the previous sketch...

This is a Clayboard, prepared with acrylic paint to seal it (blue), and then everything else is oil. The very smooth surface is good for brushing lines, though probably another coat of acrylic would have been even better.

I think I prefer downlighting on the photo resource, for future reference. :-)

A Sharpie drawing on Kraft paper.

I was using these prismacolor 005's, but frankly they ran out after just a couple days and i think the 005 was maybe too small. I like the idea of archival ink (even tho i'm not sure the paper is archival, boo). Anyhoo, they ran out so i went back to Sharpie (which is definitely NOT archival, boo again). But now I have some micron 05's to try. I wanted 01's but there weren't any at the store. Wah wah wah.
